Archbishop John to lead pilgrimage to Lourdes

Join Archbishop John and Bishop Paul for a pilgrimage to Lourdes from 23 to 30 August 2024

The Archdiocese of Southwark, led by Archbishop John Wilson, will be going on pilgrimage to Lourdes in August along with the dioceses of Northampton, Clifton and East Anglia.

Pilgrimages to Lourdes are a wonderful opportunity to pray and journey together as you seek a deeper relationship with the Lord Jesus. Lourdes provides healing and peace, strengthened by the prayers of Our Lady and St Bernadette as pilgrims seek comfort in Christ our Lord.

Bishop Paul Hendricks will also be on the pilgrimage and has written a letter to parishioners of the Archdiocese of Southwark encouraging them to join him and Archbishop John. Bishop Paul said:

“For many years, it has been my privilege and pleasure to take part in the pilgrimage to Lourdes. It is lovely to experience the unique spirituality of Lourdes, along with people from parishes around the Archdiocese.”

The pilgrimage seeks to be as accessible to as many people as possible and the Archdiocese of Southwark is grateful to the team of young helpers, caring support, nurses and doctors who make this possible. If you would like to volunteer in any of these roles, you can do so by heading to the Catholic Association, which also includes information about potential funding.

It is encouraged for Southwark pilgrims to book the same hotel, the Eliseo, which is near to the Domaine where services and other events take place. This will help enrich your experience, as you’ll be closer to support and information. The hotel can be booked here.

The pilgrimage is with Tangney Tours, where you can find out more about the pilgrimage generally, including other accommodation options.

Bishop Paul is the chairman of the Catholic Association, a UK-based charity that has been running pilgrimages to Lourdes for over a hundred years. We are grateful to the many people from Southwark who have been a part of their pilgrimages.

If you would like further information specific to the Southwark, please contact our Lourdes Chaplain, Canon Edward Perera: edwardperera@rcaos.org.uk

The pilgrimage will take place 23 to 30 August 2024.
